Wind and Rain

“For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but My kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of My peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.” ~ Isaiah 54:10 ~

Last Saturday evening, the evangelism meeting for that night was canceled due to very bad weather. In the morning they woke up to more collapsed meeting tents.

Last night the weather was good and the meeting was help out in the open.

10367810_10204015645170946_5711554856624476663_nI thank all who have been praying for Preah Vihear City and the Evangelism team. We can only do any of this with God’s help and blessing. This has been a big learning experience for all involved. I have spoken with a couple of the students who are up there and they have been relating to me the changes that God has been making in their own hearts during this time. One even apologized to me for feelings she’d had that I didn’t even know about! It is so exciting to see what God can do when we give Him a chance to work in our lives.

Goals:
1. Make friends
2. Demonstrate healthy Khmer cooking that tastes great.
3. Invite people to other events
4. Give the Seventh-day Adventist Church a visible present in Preah Vihear City.
5. Sow seeds for the future.

In more personal news, I had been struggling with teaching some all of my classes. Somehow I’d gotten depressed with how I was teaching them, and how they were learning. Basically I was just looking at all the bad instead of focusing on God and the good things that are in my classes… such a basic mistake… anyway… I was discouraged and trying to solve the problem, and I caught myself putting most the blame on others (mainly the students). But God finally got through to me in a couple of ways and as I began to focus more on Him, He was able to give me some promises and teach me some lessons through things I was studying in my private devotions, and talks I had with some wise counselors.

It really isn’t ever good to think that you can do something that doesn’t glorify God just once or twice because it, “isn’t really that bad”. It just leads to turning away from Him. I’m so thankful that God used my classes to get my attention.

Are my classes better now?… Yes!! Has anything changed in my classes/students?… not really – What changed was me! If there are changes in the classes now I believe it will be because of what God changed in me. Oh I have so much still to learn!

Heart Work

Behold, Thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part Thou shalt make me to know wisdom. ~Psalm 51:6 ~

“Truth must become truth to the receiver, to all intents and purposes. It must be stamped on the heart. “With the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:10). “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength” (Mark 12:30). This is the service that God accepts. The heart is the citadel of the being, and until that is wholly on the Lord’s side the enemy will gain constant victories over us through his subtle temptations.

Full and abundant is the provision that has been made that we may have mercy, grace, and peace. Why, then, do human beings act as if they entertained the idea that the truth is a yoke of bondage? It is because the heart has never tasted and seen that the Lord is good.

The world is full of false teaching; and if we do not resolutely search the Scriptures for ourselves, we shall accept the world’s errors for truth, adopt its customs, and deceive our own hearts. Its doctrines and customs are at variance with the truth of God. .
It is a matter of the highest importance and interest to us that we understand what truth is, and our petitions should go forth with intense earnestness that we may be guided into all truth.

Truth is sacred, divine. It is stronger and more powerful than anything else in the formation of a character after the likeness of Christ. In it there is fullness of joy. When it is cherished in the heart the love of Christ is preferred to the love of any human being. This is Christianity. This is the love of God in the soul. Thus pure, unadulterated truth occupies the citadel of the being.

When the truth as it is in Jesus molds our characters it will be seen to be truth indeed. As it is contemplated by the believer it will grow brighter, shining with its original beauty. It will increase in value, quickening and vivifying the mind and subduing selfish, unChristlike coarseness of character. It will elevate our aspirations, enabling us to reach the perfect standard of holiness.”.

Evangelism Update

Pray for Preah Vihear City

Our young people are doing a fine job of presenting the meetings and manning the other outreach projects. Attendance is low but we are working toward getting more people interested so that they can know Jesus. There are 49 adult attendees currently. Here are some pictures of our set up at the church.

Let’s Run Through The Rain

Maybe I just need washing 🙂

Positive Outlooks

[This story was spotted going viral on Facebook. It has been going on around the internet for years. So enjoy the story and let your heart be filled with grace!]

A little girl had been shopping with her Mom in Wal-Mart. She must have been 6 years old, this beautiful red haired, freckle faced image of innocence.

It was pouring outside. The kind of rain that gushes over the top of rain gutters, so much in a hurry to hit the earth it has no time to flow down the spout.. We all stood there, under the awning, just inside the door of the Wal-Mart. We waited, some patiently, others irritated because nature messed up their hurried day. I am always mesmerized by rainfall. I got lost in the sound and sight of the heavens washing away the dirt and dust of the world. Memories of running, splashing so…

Preah Vihear Health Expo and Children’s Program

Here are some recent photos and Tim’s update from the Preah Vihear Evangelism.

“God has a harvest to be reaped right now here in Preah Vihear City. He has opened the way for us through fm radio to reach much of the province for two hours a day. Yesterday afternoon’s Health Expo had 64 people go through the 8 health stations. Our young people amazed me as they confidently lead these people through the eight laws of health. It was amazing to see these people attentively listening as they spent more than an hour going through the 8 health stations. A children’s program was running a short distance from the health expo with 44 children joining in. Today the health expo will run for the full day. Please pray for this harvest to be fully gathered in.”  ~ Tim Maddocks ~

They experienced a rain storm the other night. Some of their belongings were damaged. Tim came back yesterday with the truck to get more supplies. Sadly, he came back to sad news; the mother of some of our students had died early that afternoon. Khen (gr 11), Sa (gr 8), Khone (graduated), and the youngest Srey Pov are the children. Khen was at the evangelism, and Khone was studying in The Philippines at LIGHT. Khone made it back just in time to say goodbye. Please pray for them in their time of sorrow.

“But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” ~ 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 ~

Prayers for Preah Vihear City

“Declare His glory among the heathen; His marvellous works among all nations.” ~ 1 Chronicles 16:24 ~

Last Thursday, the 1st of May, the grade 11 and 12s along with teachers Tim, Donna, Anne, Dustin, Caitlen, and Tony, left to begin their long awaited 25 days of evangelism in Preah Vihear City (Central Northern Cambodia).

The evangelism is part of the LIGHT course that comprises the grade 11 and 12 education course. They have spent months preparing for it; including participating in medical missionary health training, and sermon/public speaking training. Now the banners are up and everything is ready to start. We praise God for this opportunity to minister to the Khmer people, and to be able to give the students a chance to put into practice the skills they have been learning.

To my knowledge, not only will they be running an evangelistic campaign, but also a health clinic and seminars, children’s programs, as well as spending time going out into the community door to door.

This is the first update that Tim has posted for us:

Our team of 31 have arrived in Preah Vihear City for 25 days of Evangelism. Today was our first full day with site preparation and a prayer walk. We are also praising God for 2 hours of radio time and 10 radio announcements per day for 1 month. Please pray with us for a great harvest for God`s kingdom.

Please keep the team in your prayers, and also pray for the precious Khmer people who will be introduced to the Truth, that the Holy Spirit will work to prepare their hearts and bring about conviction and awaken love in them for their Saviour. May God be glorified!
